Seehof

Rheinhessen (Germany)

• 3/5 grapes from Gault Millau
• 3/5 stars from Eichelmann
• 3/5 stars from Wein-Plus

This small excellent family estate is located in Westhofen, a famous wine village in Rheinhessen. The Fauth family, owner of the winery, possesses three excellent vineyard sites in the heart of Westhofen, the Kirchspiel, Morstein and Steingrube. The former two are classified as Grosse Lage or Grand Cru by the VDP. The last site is not classified but lies directly next to the renowned Abtserde parcel of the famous Keller winery. However, since Seehof is not yet a member of the VDP, their wines does not bear the Grosse Lage logo which explains why they are offered at incredibly low prices. Definitely one of the best value wines from Germany.

MORSTEIN “ALTE REBEN” RIESLING 2018

TASTING NOTE

James Suckling, “A powerful riesling that suggests wild cloves and garlic, orange tart and chamomile tea. Full-bodied with handy depth and flavor and no shortage of tightly cross-linked citrus and stone fruit. Drink now.”

A wine made from old vines grown in one of the most famous grand cru site in Germany. Seehof’s parcel is directly next to the parcel where Keller, the legendary dry Riesling god, plants his wines. Because Seehof isn’t yet a member of the VDP, this wine isn’t labelled as GG (a German term for Grand Cru dry wine) which makes it one of the best value you can find. The Morstein “Alte Reben” comes from the oldest vines and has always great concentration and length. If offer sumptuous ripe fruits, razer-sharp acid and great mineral.
