Seehof

Rheinhessen (Germany)

• 3/5 grapes from Gault Millau
• 3/5 stars from Eichelmann
• 3/5 stars from Wein-Plus

This small excellent family estate is located in Westhofen, a famous wine village in Rheinhessen. The Fauth family, owner of the winery, possesses three excellent vineyard sites in the heart of Westhofen, the Kirchspiel, Morstein and Steingrube. The former two are classified as Grosse Lage or Grand Cru by the VDP. The last site is not classified but lies directly next to the renowned Abtserde parcel of the famous Keller winery. However, since Seehof is not yet a member of the VDP, their wines does not bear the Grosse Lage logo which explains why they are offered at incredibly low prices. Definitely one of the best value wines from Germany.

MUSKATELLER 2019

Germany Rheinhessen Seehof_SQ MUSKATELLER 2019

TASTING NOTE

In the glass it is a fairly light lemon yellow, then on the nose a light and intense mix of lemon, lime and yellow flowers. It tastes like that too, the citrus extract is slightly dry and sweet, the flowers are anything but perfumed, firm but also round acidity, a little slaked lime with gravel as a base. The fairly long finish repeats the citrus side, which is very fresh but also serious.

Sauvignon Blanc 2021

TASTING NOTE

Completely lovely Sauvignon from un unexpected location. This has aromas of fresh cut grass and flint.  A fresh, crisp backbone adds structure and elegance. Wonderful match for shellfish, scallops and salads.

RIESLING 2021

Germany Rheinhessen Seehof_SQ RIESLING 2021

TASTING NOTE

you will notice the residual sugar in the weight of the wine on the palate, but it will finish fresh and lively. Light gold in the glass with pristine aromas of nectarine, peach, key lime and a touch of apricot.

Kirchspiel Riesling 2021

Germany Rheinhessen Seehof_SQ KIRCHSPIEL RIESLING 2021

TASTING NOTE

James Suckling, A very limiting bottling which actually undergoes 16% oak ageing, and the fruit coming from a mixture of clay and marl vineyards. Multi-faceted Riesling thanks to it’s oak aged component. Fresh and zippy enough to keep you’re attention but with a mellow softer side to match up to a wide variety of foods. This is delicious & age worthy Riesling.
