His words reflect perfectly the core philosophy of the Knipser winery – to produce enjoyable wines. As early as 1948, Heinz Knipser, as one of the first vintners in the region, has started to bottle and sell wines. Today the Knipser winery is highly regarded and has obtained a cult status. Their wine offers is broad and deep, from white to rose to red and from basic to middle to top wines, all are of superb quality. When you see a Knipser label, you can just buy the bottle without even thinking and 100% drinking enjoyment is always guaranteed.

KIRSCHGARTEN GG PINOT NOIR 2015

TASTING NOTE

Jancis Robinson, “With four years’ ageing under its belt the Kirschgarten is close to approaching top form, as the fine match between fragrant black cherries and herbal spices testifies. The aromatic performance is completed by a subtle arrangement of roasted and smoky notes. On the palate the fruit is juicy and fresh, expertly supported by filigree minerality and a savoury piquancy which combines the contribution of both herbal and oaky nuances. The tannins have shed their initial austerity and are beginning to integrate into texture and flavour.” Robert Parker, “The 2015 Kirschgarten Spätburgunder GG is pure, fresh and intense on the nose, where red berry and floral aromas are displayed. Silky and playful on the palate, this is a silky, juicy, fresh and finessed Pinot with a filigreed but tight and sustainable structure and a long and aromatic finish. A fabulous wine.”

Robert Parker ,”Pure, clear and fresh on the nose with precise cherry and cassis aromas, the 2013 Spätburgunder Trocken Reserve is a pure and silky textured Pinot of great intensity, paired with freshness and fine tannins. Provided with good finesse and transparency, this is a very promising Pinot Noir that won’t be in the market before 2018. Very nice grip and juiciness here.”

CUVÉE X 2015

TASTING NOTE

This is Knipser’s flagship red, inspired by classic Bordeaux cuvées, made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot in the Médoc style. Cuvée X is matured mostly in new barriques for 18-20 months, this gives a wines with spicy tobacco and cedar aromas and just a touch of cassis. The wine is only released after several years of barrel and bottle aging and the production is very low.

KIRSCHGARTEN GG PINOT NOIR 2011

TASTING NOTE

Jancis Robinson, “Cherry red with plum hue on the rim. The Kirschgarten tends to show a little more muscle than its Knipser stablemates. A pronounced and almost perfumed fragrance of tobacco and sandalwood aromas opens the curtain for a powerful presentation of fruit and oak, expressed in a taste of plums, raspberries, spices and smoky notes. The tannins are still quite assertive and tactile, but there is enough substance of flavour to announce the emergence of a serious contender.”
