Since his beginning in 1972, Guy Bossard has cultivated all his vineyards organically and, since 1998, is certified by Demeter with all his 22 hectares of vines. “I can only express the different soils of our vineyards when I work the soils,” he says. As his successor, to whom he “will transfer the reigns slowly over several years,” he chose Fred, a former information technologist who changed his life, but not his passion for great wines. As member of the group “Renaissance des Appellations,” Guy and Fred aim “to restore the reputation of the vineyards of the Nantes region.” “We produce dry white wines for keeping, which are at the same time crystal clear, of a great purity and impressed with an exacerbated minerality,” they sum up their goals.

100% Chardonnay aged in concrete tank for 9 month with zero sulphur added. Elegant nose with aromas of citrus, lime and salty sea breeze. The first attack on the pallett is very pure, precise and powerful. The wine developes into a mid pallet with tangarine and citrus zest. This is unique and isn’t a typical Chardonnay you normally find on shelves.
Small decanting is definitely recommended in its youth.

MARGUERITE 2017

This cuvee, made from 100% Folle Blanche grapes, showcases hints of salty sea breeze, kelp, iodine and citrus notes. The acidity is tight and the medium body mouth feel encourages a lingering sense of white fruit notes on the palette. Great finish. A really unique wine for those who wants something different.

TAURUS 2012

This is the result when 2 artists goes wild. Guy and Fred of Domaine de l’Ecu are great practitioners of biodynamic wine-making and they sure let loose with their top cuvées which come in eye-catching labels and wax-covered neck. The Taurus has so much energy and liveliness in it. The seducing nose of apple, melon and fine cedar woods. On the palate, very complex flavours of delicious fruits, super smooth body with nice texture, refreshing acid and superb balance. The finish is out of this world, minutes-long and very enjoying. All this with only 12% alcohol.

This is a fantastic red from a white wine region which requires a lot of effort and patience to get the right ripeness. The wine is aged in amphora and used barrel for 15 months. Generous, round, red and black berries with notes of white pepper on the nose. On the palate, the wine is dense yet delicate and elegant with great delicious finish.

This is one of the most sought-after wine from Fred of Domaine de l’Ecu with tiny production. It’s a 100% Pinot Noir from Loire with great finess and complexity. Intense yet delicate nose of blackberry, violet and fine spices. The body is smooth with velvetly tannin. Long and very plesant finish.

NOBIS 2019
TASTING NOTE
This is a new project from the biodynamic master of the Loire. Fred of Domaine de l’Ecu went south to the beautiful southern Rhône valley to produce his new wine from 100% Syrah, the NOBIS. The wine is friendly and super delicious with nose of red fruit, pepper, herbs and dry leaves. On the palate, the wine is very juicy with refreshing acid. The body is mild and the tannic is soft. The finish is long and pleasant.

“Certified organic since 1972, Domaine de L’Écu converted to biodynamic practices in 1998 on the whole 24 hectares in production. Successfully produced in amphora, the property cuvees reflect their original terroir, even carrying the nature of the soils they are born from. Completely fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged on lees, this one offers
minerality reminiscent or rock dust, as well as lemon and green apple accents. Good tension, and very typical.

A 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the biodynamic artist of the Loire valley. Expressive nose of red fruits, cassis, blueberry and white pepper. Savoury attack on the palate with refreshing ripe acid. Good mouthfeel with velvet tannin and long red berry finish.
