“Jochen Dreissigacker of the Rheinhessen, a near genius on basis of my tasting of his 09 Rieslings today”, wrote Jancis Robinson
After spending some years learning from the legendary Klaus Peter Keller, Jochen came home to take over his family winery and, in a very short time, turn an unknown estate into the talk of the town. The huge quality improvement is a result of laborious work in the vineyards, which has increased from 180 to almost 1000 hours per hectares per year, including, e.g. the introduction of organic practices, lower yield, very late harvest and the picking of only small healthy grapes to produce wines that are concentrated, complex with a distinct character.

Beautiful refreshing nose with strawberry, cherry and spices. On the palate, light and fruity with good mineral backend. Smooth body and lively acid with good middle long finish.

TASTING NOTE
This clear, refreshing and racy Riesling is a great introduction to the whole range of Dreissigacker, a fantastic and one of the hottest family own winery in Germany. The nose is fragrant and fresh with ripe fruit aromas of apples, peaches and sweet plus a soft touch of wild white flowers. On the palate, the wine is light and elegant, yet with intensity and a piquant taste that ends with a delicious salty finish. It’s a very charming wine with great finesse that will simply put a smile on anybody’s face.

Robert Parker, “The 2013 Rosengarten is from loess and marly soils and opens with a highly aromatic, refined and elegant bouquet of ripe stone fruits, crushed stones and flinty tones. Very much Rheingau-styled. The palate is lush and creamy, superintense and elegant, with flow, fine tannins and a long and salty, powerful finish. It’s rather feminine more than austere. Tasted at the domaine in March 2020.”

Jancis Robinson, “Yield of 30 hl/ha. Macerated for 25 hours before wild-yeast fermentation in stainless steel for five weeks. TA 6.3 g/l. Very deep straw. Ripe rich and warm vintage. Healthy grapes. Quite pungent. This bottle is apparently more evolved than most. Even a bit syrupy – and heavier, because of the vintage and possibly the bottle. Pretty impressive persistence.”

Jancis Robinson, “Single-vineyard site in Bechtheim. RS 3.2 g/l, TA 6 g/l. Deep aroma with an oily minerality and a wide range of citrus fruit, from orange to grapefruit, but the fruit aroma in minor key behind the mineral dusty/smokiness. (This is the sort of wine where such words are really too imprecise.) Rich and dense and dry but definitely a thoroughbred with no fat. Persistent and mouthwatering with greater underlying power than the Bechtheimer but no loss of precision and it tastes crisper than the Kirchspiel though the vital statistics are very similar.”

This is a 100% Pinot Noir from Jochen Dreissigacker, one of the most talented and exciting young winemaker from Germany. Jochen went to learn wine making at the legendary Klaus Peter Keller and came back to turn his family-own winery into one of the best in Germany. His Wunderwerk Pinot Noir is a great example of the huge potential of German Pinot Noir. It’s a delicious wine with great fruit and structure with huge aging potential.
